Diabetes during Pregnancy

Some pregnant patients develop glucose intolerance during the second and third trimester of their pregnancy. This may lead to the condition called Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) . Most women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus go back to their normal sugar level after childbirth. Patient who had GDM have a risk of 35 - 60 % of developing Diabetes Mellitus in the next 10 - 20 years. Reference: Jameson, J. L., & Loscalzo, J.
