What is a Professional Tax?
  • It is a tax paid YEARLY by professionals in the Philippines on or before January 31. 


What government code explains the Professional Tax? 
  • Professional Tax is stated in the Local Government Code of the Philippines
    • Book II: Local Taxation and Fiscal Matters
    • Title One: Local Government Taxation
    • Chapter 2: Specific Provisions on the Taxing and other Revenue-Raising Powers of Local Government Units
    • Article One: Provinces 
    • Section 139: Professional Tax 



Where do I pay my Professional Tax?
  • The code states that the person is required to pay the tax to the specific province where he/she practices his/her profession
  • If ever the professional practices in different province, he/she is required to pay the specific province where his/her principal office is located. 


Who are exempted from paying Professional Tax?
  • Professionals who are exclusively employed in the government is exempted from paying Professional Tax


How much is the Professional Tax?
  • As stated in the Local Government Code, Professional Tax should not exceed P300
  • For the Physicians (Doctors) from Manila = P300 per year 


What is the penalty for late payment?

  • Professional will incur a penalty of P75 + 2% (P 82.50) if payment is done on the month February
  • For the month of March to December, the penalty is x2% 


What are the requirements for New Application/ Renewal of PTR?



For New Application

- Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) I.D.
- Photocopy of PRC I.D.
- If a representative will process the requirements on behalf of the applicant  
§  Authorization letter
§  Identification Card of the authorized representative




For Renewal of Professional Tax

- Original copy of the previous Professional Tax Receipt (PTR)
- Photocopy of Previous Professional Tax Receipt (PTR)  
- PRC I.D.
- If a representative will process the requirements on behalf of the applicant  
· Authorization letter
· Identification Card of the authorized representative



Does the Professional Tax Receipt Number change?
  • Yes!

  • Unlike our PRC number (which is constant), PTR number changes every year

Importance of PTR in the Practice of Medicine of Physicians 
  • The government requires the physician to include his/her PTR number in the prescription pad in order for the senior citizen to avail the 20% discount
